India does not vote on the UNGA resolution denouncing Israel’s ‘occupation’.

    • India, among 43 nations, abstained from a UN General Assembly resolution calling for Israel to vacate Palestinian territories.
    • The resolution was adopted by the UN body, with 124 out of 181 countries voting in favor.
    • India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, P. Harish, emphasized the need for joint efforts to bring the two sides closer.
    • Harish reiterated India’s position on a two-state solution for Israel-Palestine peace and the importance of the UN charter.
    • India’s resolution blames neither Hamas nor Israel for the 2023 terrorist attacks and the reprisal bombardment of Gaza and the West Bank.
    • India’s abstention was a departure from its previous record of voting in favor of resolutions calling for Israel to withdraw troops from occupied Palestinian territories.
    • India’s companies have joint ventures with Israeli defence companies and manufacture parts under license.
    • The resolution follows two waves of bombings across Lebanon, which the Lebanese government blames Israel for.
