India Post to Accept Digital Payments in Post Offices
• India Post is integrating Unified Payments Interface (UPI) during booking Speed Post to prevent decline in digital payments.
• The department plans to ensure sufficient room for mail bags on passenger flights across India.
• The “hard blocks” on passenger flights’ spare room in the cargo hold will be reserved for India Post.
• Post offices across India are upgrading their IT systems in phases, accepting UPI and including more tracking fields.
• The Advanced Postal Technology (APT) system has been rolled out in major metro cities like Delhi and Chennai.
• Over 86,000 post offices have been upgraded to the new systems so far, representing over half the postal network in India.
• The APT application offers an enhanced user experience, faster service delivery, and a more customer-friendly interface.
• The department is also working on an email-like system for seamless letter redirection when addressees shift their residence.
