India Reminds Bangladesh’s Interim Government to Protect Religious Minorities’ Rights
• India has emphasized the need to protect the rights of all religious minorities in Bangladesh, stating that reported incidents of violence against minorities are not “media exaggeration.”
• The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, stated that India has consistently raised threats and targeted attacks on Hindus and other minorities.
• The remark follows a recent exchange of statements between Bangladesh and India following the arrest of ISKCON leader, Chinmoy Krishna Das.
• Jaiswal called for a fair trial of Das, who is facing sedition charges for disrespecting the national flag of Bangladesh.
• The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh expressed “deep concern” about the protest outside the Deputy High Commission in Kolkata and condemned the burning of the effigy of Mr. Yunus and the flag of Bangladesh.
