India-U.S. Trade Tensions: A Discussion

• Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal reports a team from India is in the U.S. to discuss tariffs.

• However, due to the ongoing shutdown in the U.S. government, it’s not the right time for the next round of negotiations on a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA).

• Agrawal, the chief negotiator for India on the BTA, stated that India would be “very happy” to increase its energy imports from the U.S.

• Despite the shutdown, both sides are actively discussing solutions to the current trade tensions.

• Agrawal expressed India’s willingness to buy more energy from the U.S., subject to its availability at the right price.
