India-US relations are not a condition for Delhi-Moscow relationships

• Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized that Russia respects India’s national interests and independent foreign policy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

• Lavrov stated that India’s relationships with the United States or other countries do not influence India-Russia ties.

• He described the India-Russia relationship as a “particularly privileged strategic partnership.”

• Lavrov’s comments came during a UN General Assembly press conference, where he addressed India’s ongoing import of Russian oil amid U.S. pressure.

• He highlighted a recent meeting between Modi and President Vladimir Putin and mentioned Putin’s forthcoming visit to New Delhi in December.

• Lavrov expressed confidence in India’s ability to make independent decisions regarding trade relations and oil imports.
