Indian Home Minister Amit Shah Calls for Legal Deportation of Foreign Drug Dealers

• Union Home Minister Amit Shah urges a “liberal approach” to deportation processes to ensure a mechanism for deporting criminals involved in narcotics trade.

• He calls for a robust extradition system that is effective against drugs, terrorism, and gang-related offences.

• Shah emphasizes the need for a joint mechanism involving the Narcotics Control Bureau, CBI, and State police to bring back foreign criminals and fugitives involved in drug trafficking.

• He warns of an increase in synthetic drugs and laboratories and urges ANTF heads to remain vigilant and destroy such laboratories and synthetic drugs.

• Shah also notes that 1,37,917 kg of seized drugs worth about ₹4,800 crore were destroyed at 11 locations across the country on Tuesday.
