    Indian Socialism: A Welfare State, Not a Diktatorship CJI’s View

    • Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna argues that Indian socialism is a welfare state providing equality of opportunity for all, not a dictatorial dogma.

    • Khanna, along with Justice Sanjay Kumar, defended the concept of socialism, stating it does not negate the participation of private players or individualism.

    • The Supreme Court is hearing petitions challenging the inclusion of’socialist, secular’ in the Constitution’s Preamble in 1976, arguing it is an unalterable fact and a “fraud on the Constitution.”

    • Advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay argues the changes were made without States’ ratification, a claim he argues is a “fraud on the Constitution.”

    • Khanna argues that socialism and secularism are part of the Constitution’s Basic Structure.
