    India’s Commitment to Africa and the Global South

    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visits to Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana are significant for India’s commitment to the Global South.

    • Modi and Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reaffirmed ties in areas including defense cooperation.

    • Modi identified challenges such as terrorism, separatism, piracy, and drug trafficking as areas for cooperation.

    • India has a strong economic ties with Nigeria, with about 200 Indian companies investing around $27 billion in pharma, healthcare, agriculture, and energy.

    • Nigeria is among the top African economies in GDP and is now a BRICS partner country.

    • India’s commitment to the Global South and South-South cooperation has been appreciated, particularly in Africa.

    • India’s plans to use the platform to feed into the G-20 processes may find more engagement if the G-20 host each year takes over the hosting of the VoGS summit.

    • India must match its ideals with a decisive presence across the developing world.
