    India’s Education System and AI

    • India’s outdated education system is not adequately preparing students for rapidly changing jobs.

    • Emerging technologies, particularly AI, are reshaping the future of work.

    • Incremental curriculum update cycle leaves many students behind if not up-skilled, cross-skilled, and re-skilled.

    • Despite producing millions of graduates annually, many remain underemployed and becoming unemployable.

    • 40%-50% of engineering graduates from Indian universities have not been placed in jobs.

    • 61% of higher education leaders agree that curricula are not aligned with rapidly changing job market needs.

    AI and Skills Crisis

    • The AI revolution is accelerating, leading to a skills crisis with nearly seven out of every 10 Indian jobs at risk from automation by 2030.

    • The World Economic Forum predicts that AI and other new tech will create 170 million new jobs by 2030, but more than half of these jobs will be displaced.

    • 93% of Indian students are aware of only seven career options, most of which are traditional roles.

Digital Tools, Analog Mindsets, and the Skills Gap in India

    • Traditional, examination-centric curricula hinder career exploration and skill development.

    • Only 43% of Indian graduates are job-ready despite the availability of digital tools.

    • EdTech platforms like Coursera and Udemy focus on test preparation and rote learning, neglecting career discovery and skill development.

    • A cohesive strategy aligning education and skill development with industry demands is needed.

    • Collaboration between government, private sector, and educational institutions is essential for creating a robust ecosystem for skill development.

India Demographic Skills Gap is important topic for Civil service exam (WBCS).
