    India’s Plantation Sector’s High Export Potential

    • Neeraj Gaba, Director – Plantations, Department of Commerce, states that India’s plantation sector has high export potential.
    • Tea exports last fiscal were 260 million kg, coffee exports were worth $1.29 billion.
    • Spice exports were growing at a CAGR of 8.9% consistently.
    • Almost 50% of spices exported were in value-added form, while 38% of coffee exports were value-added.
    • Allocation for all plantation sectors increased for current and next financial years.
    • The annual allocation for the coffee sector was enhanced to ₹300 crore, focusing on mechanisation and quality improvement.
    • Financial assistance for the tea sector under the ‘Tea Development & Promotion Scheme’ was increased from ₹290.81 crore to ₹528.97 crore for 2024-25.
