India’s Power Regulatory Commission (CERC) focuses on power demand spikes.
• The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has appointed a single-member bench to examine preparedness of power managers and stakeholders.
• The peak power demand in India is projected to be 232.2 GW, with an additional requirement of generation resources of about 12.60 GW.
• The rise in electricity demand without adequate generation sources could put the power system operation at risk.
• The CERC has directed the National Load Despatch Centre, RLDCs, and SLDCs to submit a report by October 16 on the implementation of steps as per the Grid-Code, load-generation scenario, and other measures to address the power supply deficit.
