India’s Trade Deficit Widens 93% in September
• India’s trade deficit grew by 93% in September due to a decrease in imports.
• The trade deficit shrank by 2.3% in the first half of the financial year from April to September 2025.
• Total exports increased by 0.8% to $67.2 billion in September 2025, while total imports grew 11.3% to $83.8 billion.
• The trade deficit nearly doubled to $16.6 billion in September 2025, compared to $8.6 billion in September 2024.
• Goods exports grew by 6.7% to $36.4 billion in September 2025, despite the first full month of 50% tariffs imposed by the U.S. on imports.
• Despite a 13.4% increase in exports to the U.S. in April-September 2025, they have been declining steadily over the last few months.
