    • Jagdeep Dhankhar, a former Vice President of India, has worked in three political parties: Janata Dal, Congress, and BJP.

    • He was born in 1951 in Rajasthan and studied at Sainik School in Chittorgarh.

    • He was a graduate in Physics and pursued a career in law.

    • His political career began with a meeting with socialist leader Chaudhary Devi Lal.

    • His appearance in favor of Roop Kanwar’s in-laws gained him favor among the Rajputs, leading to his victory in the 1989 general elections as the Janata Dal candidate.

    • He joined the Congress in 1991 and contested the Assembly elections in Rajasthan in 1998.

    • In 2003, he joined the BJP and later grew closer to the RSS.

    • He was sworn in as the Governor of West Bengal on July 30, 2019, and won the 2022 election with 74.37% votes.

    • Dhankhar was criticized for his frequent criticisms of the judiciary and his bias towards the government.

    • His resignation on July 21, citing health reasons, has been met with opposition MPs and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
