    J&K Votes in Assembly Election

    • J&K votes in the first phase of the Assembly election after 10 years.
    • The Union government downgraded J&K to a Union Territory in August 2019, ending its special constitutional status under Article 370.
    • Hundreds of additional troops have been mobilized for security cover to 3,276 polling stations.
    • Voting will be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Doda and Kishtwar in the Chenab Valley.
    • The Chenab Valley is among the regions recast by the J&K Delimitation Commission, forming two additional Assembly constituencies.
    • A general alert has been sounded in the Union Territory, with additional checkpoints set up.
    • 219 candidates are in the fray in the first phase, with over 23.27 lakh voters.
    • The polling stations have webcasting facilities.
