Kerala Health Department Confirms First Mpox Case in Malappuram
• Kerala Health Department confirmed the state’s first Mpox case, a 38-year-old man from Dubai tested positive for the disease.
• Health Minister Veena George requested those with symptoms to seek treatment.
• The Health Department has arranged treatment and isolation facilities in 14 districts for Mpox.
• The Mpox patient under treatment at Government Medical College Hospital, Manjeri in Malappuram, is stable and improving.
• Ten more persons from the Malappuram district tested negative for Nipah virus, including close relatives of a 24-year-old man who died of Nipah.
• All 26 persons whose serum samples were collected have been tested negative for Nipah in the district.
• Special nodal officers have been appointed to handle suspected Mpox cases.
• Surveillance against Mpox was strengthened in the Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, Kozhikode, and Kannur airports.
• Mpox, formerly known as monkey pox, is now being spread from human to human.
• Early symptoms include fever, severe headache, backpain, muscle pain, lack of energy, and swollen lymph nodes.
