Kuki-Zo organizations and the Center reached an agreement to close camps near Meitei lands.
• Kuki-Zo insurgent groups and Union Home Ministry officials reached an understanding on the relocation and closure of certain camps in Manipur.
• The Ministry stressed on the recovery of looted weapons and the opening of national highways.
• Security agencies proposed the closure of seven out of 14 existing camps, located near Meitei-populated areas.
• The insurgent groups resumed talks with the Home Ministry on June 9, after a two-year gap.
• The extension of the suspensions of operations (SoO) pact with the Kuki-Zo groups is dependent on adherence to ground rules and other conditions.
• The next round of talks will be held after 15 days.
• The SoO representative stated that the ground rules of the SoO pact need to be revisited due to changing demands.
• Around 2,200 cadres of the SoO groups live in 14 designated camps in Manipur, entitled to a stipend of ₹6,000 per month, which has not been paid since the violence erupted.
