Ladakh Statehood Talks Resume

• Civil society groups resume talks on Ladakh’s status with Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) officials.

• MHA officials offer special provisions under Article 371 of the Constitution for Ladakh.

• Both groups demand inclusion under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, which recognizes tribal status and provides autonomy and self-governance.

• They also demand the release of Sonam Wangchuk and other protesters detained after last month’s violence in Leh.

• Article 371, applicable in 12 states, deals with Temporary, Transitional and Special Provisions.
