Linktree Blocked in India

• Linktree, a popular “link in bio” service on Instagram, has been blocked on several Internet service providers’ networks in India.

• The service is used by many firms, influencers, and celebrities, and is also used by political parties.

• The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has no knowledge of the blocking order targeting the Australia-based firm’s service.

• The Department of Telecommunications, which manages the system to communicate blocking orders with telecom and Internet service providers, did not comment on the issue.

• Technology lawyer Sapni G.K. criticized the blocking, stating it was detrimental to businesses and individual users of the service, harming their revenue and preventing conversion.

• The Department of Telecommunications has not commented on the blocking, but security researcher Karan Saini found the site remained blocked on networks belonging to Jio, Tikona, ACT Fibernet, Asianet, and other small providers.
