Lok Sabha Passes Resolution to extend President’s Rule in Manipur for Six More Months
• Lok Sabha passed a Statutory Resolution to extend President’s Rule in Manipur for six more months.
• Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai stated that peace and normalcy were returning to the State.
• The Rajya Sabha will also be required to pass the resolution for the extension to take effect.
• Manipur was placed under President’s Rule in February after N. Biren Singh stepped down as Chief Minister.
• Only one incident of violence and one death reported in the State in the last eight months.
• Inner Manipur MP A. Bimol Akoijam of the Congress objected to the extension, calling for a fresh election and a government with the people’s mandate.
