Mahanadi Dispute Resolved Amicably
• Odisha and Chhattisgarh express willingness to resolve the Mahanadi river water dispute amicably.
• The Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal (MWDT), chaired by former Supreme Court judge Justice Bela M. Trivedi, has fixed a hearing date for September 6.
• The tribunal has directed the Secretaries of the two States to remain present to monitor the progress of the settlement talks.
• Odisha’s Advocate-General, Pitambar Acharya, has initiated proceedings and a letter from Chief Minister Mohan Majhi to Chhattisgarh counterpart, Vishnu Deo Sai, stating that the dispute is under consideration.
