Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh sign MoU for Tapti basin recharge project.
• The Tapti Basin Mega Recharge Project, a joint initiative between the two states, aims to address water needs in select regions.
• The agreement was finalized at a meeting of the Madhya Pradesh–Maharashtra Inter-State Control Board in Bhopal.
• The project is the third such initiative undertaken by the Madhya Pradesh government in the past year.
• The water from the Tapti river will be diverted to cater to drinking water needs in northeast Maharashtra and provide irrigation support to Madhya Pradesh’s southern and southeastern districts.
• The Union government is expected to fund 90% of the project cost.
