Maharashtra’s OBC Leader Chhagan Bhujbal Urges Maratha Leaders to Clarify Reservation Position

• Maharashtra Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and Other Backward Classes (OBC) leader Chhagan Bhujbal have urged Maratha leaders to clarify their stance on reservation.

• Bhujbal cited the community’s request for reservation under the OBC category, despite already availing benefits under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Socially and Educationally Backward Class (SEBC) categories.

• Bhujbal met with the family of Bharat Karad, an OBC man who allegedly committed suicide in fear of the government’s Kunbi caste certificate issue affecting OBC quota.

• The GR was issued on September 2 after Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange-Patil staged a hunger strike in Mumbai.

• Bhujbal defended the Maratha community’s right to OBC reservation and urged them to have faith in the judiciary.

• Jarange-Patil urged both Maratha and OBC communities not to resort to extreme measures, stating they only demand their rightful share under the OBC quota.

• BJP Minister Ashish Shelar clarified that Maratha community members who have opted for quota benefits under the EWS category will not be eligible for benefits under other categories.
