Manipur crisis: Kuki-Zo and Meitei civil society groups gather in Delhi today.
Civil Society Groups Hold Dialogue on Ethnic Violence in Manipur
• Civil society groups from Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities are set to hold a dialogue in Delhi for the first time since the ethnic violence in May 2023.
• The meeting will be attended by representatives from the Kuki-Zo Council, the Zomi Council, the Federation of Civil Societies (FOCS), and the All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO).
• Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized dialogue as the only way forward and the Union government was against continuing President’s Rule in the State.
• Shah criticized the opposition for politicizing the issue, stating that 70% of the 260 people killed in the ethnic violence took place in the first 15 days.
• The final meeting involving both communities is expected to be held in Delhi soon.
• The statutory resolution for the imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur was moved in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
