Maratha Quota Protests in Mumbai

• Maratha activist Manoj Jarange-Patil urges Mahayuti dispensation to issue a government resolution (GR) on Maratha quota.

• Jarange-Patil, who has been on a hunger strike since Friday, vowed to stop drinking water from Monday.

• He argues that Marathas are a sub-caste of Kunbis, an agrarian community that benefits under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category.

• State Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, who heads the Cabinet sub-committee on the Maratha reservation issue, stated that the government needs more time to study if the Hyderabad and Satara gazettes can be implemented.

• He also argued that Marathas should benefit from the existing EWS quota rather than being categorised as OBCs.

• Protesters blocked the car of NCP MP Supriya Sule and demanded a special session of the Assembly and an all-party meeting to resolve the quota issue.

• The protest also saw leaders of the Mahayuti and Opposition trade barbs.
