Migrant Worker Amir Sheikh Reunited with Family in Bangladesh

• Amir Sheikh, a 19-year-old migrant worker from West Bengal’s Malda district, was allegedly detained from Rajasthan in May and “pushed back” into Bangladesh.

• His family contested the Border Security Force (BSF)’s claims of his deportation.

• Trinamool Congress MP and chairperson of the West Bengal Migrant Welfare Board, Samirul Islam, refuted the BSF’s claims of his deportation.

• Islam argued that the BSF and Union government were trying to cover up the worker’s pushing back into Bangladesh.

• He stated that the BSF brought Amir back to West Bengal under pressure and that he was in Bangladeshi custody.

• The matter will be heard on August 27.

• Hundreds of Bengali-speaking migrant workers have faced alleged detention and harassment in different states.
