    Mithun Chakraborty Receives Dadasaheb Phalke Award

    • Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty named recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2022.
    • The award, the government’s highest recognition in cinema, will be presented during the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8.
    • Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the award on X.
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Chakraborty as a “cultural icon” admired across generations.
    • Chakraborty won the National Film Award for Best Actor in his first film, Marinayaa (1976).
    • He gained popularity in the 1980s with his role in Disco Dancer (1982).
    • He won two more National Film Awards for his work in Tahader Katha (1992) and Swami Vivekananda (1998).
    • Chakraborty has acted in over350 films across various Indian languages.
