Naga Council Implies Trade Embargo on India-Myanmar Border

• The United Naga Council (UNC) imposed a “trade embargo” on the India-Myanmar border in Manipur, affecting goods movement.

• The embargo affected goods-carrying vehicles in Naga-dominated areas of the State.

• Trucks and non-passenger commercial vehicles were stranded on major roads, including National Highway 2, in Naga-inhabited areas.

• The UNC argues the fencing will cut familial and ethnic ties between Nagas on either side of the border.

• The UNC calls for free, prior, and informed consent of the Naga people for any project affecting them and their homeland.

• The Thadou Inpi Manipur and the Sagolmang Area Naga Students’ Association condemned armed Kuki extremists who reportedly intercepted a bus at Molnom.
