NIA arrests Rana after extradition.
• Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a Pakistani-origin Canadian-American wanted for his role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, was brought to Delhi by a special flight after his extradition from the United States.
• Rana’s extradition sparked a heated exchange between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress. BJP argued it reflected India’s zero-tolerance stance towards terrorism. Congress criticized the government for “rushing to take credit,” claiming it was the result of years of diplomatic groundwork.
• Security arrangements were made at Indira Gandhi International Airport and outside the Patiala House court.
• Rana, a doctor in the Pakistani army, was friends with David Coleman Headley, the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative who conducted reconnaissance for the Mumbai terror attacks.
