Nimisha case discussed by Iran FM, Houthi envoy
• Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has appealed for Nimisha Priya, an Indian nurse on death row in Yemen, with a senior Houthi envoy.
• Araghchi met with Mohammed Abdul Salam, the special envoy of Ansar Allah, the Houthi group controlling significant parts of Yemen.
• Araghchi and Salam met in Muscat for official talks to discuss recent regional developments, including the enforcement of the Gaza ceasefire.
• Priya, a former nurse from Kerala, was convicted in 2020 for killing her Yemeni business partner, Talal Abdo Mahdi, in 2017.
• Her family launched an international campaign for clemency, collecting contributions towards reparations or “blood money” for her pardon.
• The Indian government is providing all possible assistance in the case, but the matter regarding her release is between the family of the deceased and Priya’s family.
• Diplomatic efforts are ongoing, with Iran’s influence over the Houthi group in Yemen. • Araghchi believes the case will not be resolved unless an alternative legal argument is presented before the courts
