Nishad and Simran create a great day for India

• Nishad Kumar won his first world title in high jump T47, setting a new Asian record of 2.14m at the World Para Athletics Championships.

• Simran Sharma successfully defended her title in the 100m T12, achieving a personal best time of 11.95 seconds.

• Nishad, previously a runner-up in the Tokyo and Paris Paralympics, cleared all pre-set marks on his first attempts but missed the world record of 2.18m.

• He outperformed three-time world and Paralympic champion Roderick Townsend, who only cleared 2.03m.

• Simran’s victory marked India’s sixth gold and 15th medal of the event.

• Preethi Pal earned a bronze in the 200m T35 with a season-best time of 30.03 seconds.

• Pardeep Kumar secured third place in the discus throw F64.

• Catherine Debrunner of Switzerland won her fifth consecutive gold medal in the 400m T53.

• Additional results included various events across multiple categories with notable performances, including:

– 100m T11: Athanasios Ghavelas (Gre) with a time of 10.96s.

– Long Jump T64: Markus Rehm (Ger) achieving 8.43m.

– Discus Throw F64: Ivan Katanusic (Cro) at 55.12m.
