OBCs plan to protest against GR’s issuance of Kunbi certificates on October 10

• OBC leaders in Maharashtra plan to protest in Nagpur on October 10 against the government’s resolution to issue Kunbi caste certificates to the Maratha community.

• They argue that sharing reservation benefits with Marathas undermines the OBC’s entitlement.

• The decision for the protest follows a meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, where OBC leaders presented a memorandum with nine demands, including the withdrawal of the September 2 GR.

• The demands also include measures to prevent the issuance of fake Kunbi certificates and a White Paper on all caste certificates issued.

• Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar stated that despite the CM’s call for a meeting, their demands remain unmet.

• In response to demands for funding for the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Research and Training Institute, the CM promised an allocation of ₹1,500 crore.

• Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured that the government would ensure justice for OBC, SC, and ST communities and take action against officials issuing fake certificates.

• Deputy CM Ajit Pawar emphasized the ongoing need for adequate provisions for the still-backward OBC community.
