    • A 20-year-old Odisha student who set herself on fire outside her college principal’s office over harassment died of burns.
    • Despite supportive management and renal replacement therapy, she could not be revived and was declared clinically dead on July 14.
    • Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi promised stringent action against all those found guilty.
    • Deputy CM Pravati Parida and several BJP MLAs visited the AIIMS campus to pay their last respects.
    • A ruckus broke out after the news of the student’s death, with Biju Janata Dal leaders accusing the government of conspiring to hush up the matter.
    • The accused teacher, Samir Sahu, and the principal, Dillip Ghosh, were arrested on July 12 and 14, respectively.
    • The National Human Rights Commission and the National Commission for Women have taken cognisance of the matter.
    • Odisha Police’s Crime Branch is conducting a separate investigation into the case.
