• The Odisha government has approved a proposal to introduce 11.25% reservation in admission for students from the Socially and Economically Backward Classes (SEBC) in state-owned and funded higher education institutions.
• The reservation will be applicable in State public universities, State government, and aided higher secondary and higher education institutions starting from the academic year 2025-26.
• The reservation ensures uniform implementation of admission for students belonging to ST (22.5%), SC (16.25%), SEBC (11.25%), Persons with Disabilities (5%), and Ex-servicemen (1%).
• The reservation for OBC/SEBC in employment has decreased from 27% in 1994 to 11.25% since 2007.
