PM Narendra Modi Visits Semiconductor Plant in Japan

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited a semiconductor plant in Sendai, Japan, on Saturday, marking a day of increased cooperation between India and Japan in the critical technology sector.

• Modi and Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba travelled in a bullet train to Sendai, over 300 km from Tokyo.

• The visit highlighted the complementarity between India’s growing semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem and Japan’s strengths in the sector.

• TEL Miyagi, a leading Japanese company in the semiconductor sector, has plans for collaborations with India.

• The visit highlighted opportunities for collaboration in the field of PRESS TRUST OF INDIA, TOKYO semiconductor supply chain, fabrication, and testing.

• Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in this sector, building on the Memorandum of Cooperation on the Japan-India semiconductor supply chain partnership.

• Modi also met the Governors of 16 Japanese prefectures in Tokyo and called for strengthening State-prefecture cooperation under the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.

• Discussions focused on ways to deepen partnerships between Indian States and Japanese prefectures in technology, innovation, investment, skills, start-ups, and SMEs.
