Rajula Srivastava Wins Maryam Mirzakhani New Frontiers Prize for Harmonic Analysis and Analytic Number Theory
• Rajula Srivastava, a mathematician, won the Maryam Mirzakhani New Frontiers Prize for her work in harmonic analysis and analytic number theory.
• Initially dismissed the prize, she was later revealed by mathematician Terence Tao.
• Srivastava, a Hirzebruch Research Instructor at the University of Bonn and the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics, discovered her love for maths in school.
• She pursued a master’s degree in mathematics at the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneshwar, and a PhD at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
• Her postdoctoral research focused on problems at the interface of harmonic analysis and number theory.
• Her work on counting points in 3D space won her the prize.
• Despite challenges in India, Srivastava formed a community and received support from both men and women.
