Singapore Acknowledges India’s Malacca Straits Patrol

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong signed five agreements, including one to export green energy from India to Singapore.

• The partnership will extend beyond traditional areas to include advanced manufacturing, green shipping, skilling, civil nuclear energy, and urban water management.

• The joint statement aims to deepen defence technology cooperation in “quantum computing, AI, automation, and unmanned vessels”.

• Both sides will cooperate to enhance maritime security and submarine rescue in the “Indo-Pacific”.

• India’s Secretary (East), Ministry of External Affairs, P. Kumaran, stated India’s interest in patrolling the Malacca Straits due to its proximity to the Andaman Sea.
