“Stop Selling China Mega Dam Bogey to Push Siang Project”

• Arunachal Pradesh activists and farmers urge the Union government not to invoke China’s planned hydropower project on the Yarlung Tsangpo in Tibet to proceed with the proposed 11,500- megawatt Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP).

• The SUMP is expected to submerge 27 villages and displace over 1.5 lakh members of the Adi tribe.

• Both India and Bangladesh express concerns about the downstream impact of the project.

• The SUMP is defended as a “defensive measure” against potential threats from the Medog project.
