STPI’s New Role in IT Sector Growth
• Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) is repositioning to drive the next wave of digital transformation across India.
• The new role aims to make IT growth truly inclusive in the country, focusing on entrepreneurship in software, products, and business process management (BPM) spaces nationwide.
• STPI has created 17 lakh sq.ft incubation spaces in tier 2 and tier 3 cities to accommodate entrepreneurs.
• The organization has been encouraging and assisting entrepreneurs in shifting IT and IT enabled services (ITeS) to smaller cities and towns.
• STPI has achieved software exports of over ₹10.59 lakh crore in FY 2024–25, accounting for $110 billion of the country’s total software exports of over $200 billion.
• As a preparation measure, STPI has created some 17 lakh sq.ft incubation space in tier two and three cities to accommodate small tech, product or BPM entrepreneurs or micro, small and medium enterprises.
• STPI has created 24 centres of entrepreneurship nationwide to encourage a start-up culture in the product space.
• In the last three years, STPI has supported around 1,500 start-ups, creating around 800 IPRs and over 2,000 product innovations.
• Despite the country’s IT/ITeS services exports reaching nearly $224 billion, software products lag behind at $17 billion, with product exports contributing roughly $12 billion.
