Supreme Court Allows Students Missing Fees to Attend IIT
• The Supreme Court has granted admission to Atul Kumar, a student from a Scheduled Caste community, who missed the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Dhanbad due to inability to pay the ₹17,500 fees on time.
• The court, under Article 142 of the Constitution, opened the doors of IIT Dhanbad to Kumar.
• Kumar, who had secured a rank of 1,455 for the JEE (Advanced) 2024 in his category, had to overcome financial struggles to secure admission.
• After attempting to communicate with IIT Madras, Kumar approached the Madras High Court for legal aid, which advised him to appeal to the Supreme Court for relief.
