Supreme Court Dismisses Challenge to ‘Ungaludan Stalin’ Scheme
• The Supreme Court dismissed a challenge by All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) MP C.Ve. Shanmugam to name a Tamil Nadu government outreach programme, ‘Ungaludan Stalin’, after the Chief Minister.
• The three-Judge Bench, led by Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, set aside a Madras High Court order limiting the name of State welfare schemes after any living personality.
• The DMK appealed the High Court’s restraining order in the Supreme Court.
• The case was dismissed with costs of ₹10 lakh, with the MP to pay the costs to the State government.
