Supreme Court Urges Election Commission to Publicize 65 Lakh Excluded Bihar Electors’ Names

• The Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission to publish a list of approximately 65 lakh electors not included in the draft electoral roll.

• The list should include reasons such as death, migration, being untraceable, and duplicate registrations.

• The court argues that transparency is necessary to inspire voters’ confidence and that the names of excluded electors should be made public.

• Electors whose names were excluded can file objections by applying with a copy of their Aadhaar, a statutorily recognized instrument of identity and residence.

• This is the first time the court has formally directed the use of Aadhaar as a proof of identity and residence in the Bihar Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
