Tatas trust successor
• Noel Naval Tata, the brother of late Ratan Naval Tata, has been appointed as the Chairman of Tata Trusts.
• Noel Tata, 66, has been involved in various businesses of the Tata Group for over four decades.
• He also heads the successful fashion retail company Trent Ltd, which tripled its net profit in FY24 to ₹1,477 crore.
• Noel Tata was born in December 1957 in Mumbai and is the son of Naval Tata, RNT’s father, and Simone Tata, RNT’s step-mother.
• He studied at Mumbai’s Cathedral and John Connon School and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Economics from the University of Sussex in Britain.
• Noel holds a management degree from INSEAD in France.
• As the head of Tata Trusts, Noel will play a crucial role in shaping the Tata family’s legacy in philanthropy and in the running of the Group.
• Tata Trusts asserted its right as the largest shareholder of Tata Sons in 2016 when RNT led a board room battle to oust Cyrus Mistry as executive Chairman of Tata Sons.
• Noel has been far-sighted in business decisions, setting up Trent in 1998, making the group’s entry into the retail sector.
• He served as the Managing Director of Trent for over 11 years and oversaw Trent’s growth across formats.
• Noel has three children, Leah, Maya, and Neville, all of whom are trustees at various Tata Trusts and work in Group companies in various capacities.
