• Current influenza vaccines offer limited protection duration; effectiveness decreases significantly within 3 to 6 months.

• India faces a unique challenge with influenza occurring in two peaks: winter (January-March) and post-monsoon (July-September).

• An annual vaccination does not adequately address the second peak of influenza, leaving a substantial portion of the population vulnerable.

• A biannual vaccination schedule is proposed: one dose before the monsoon and another before winter, potentially reducing cases significantly.

• Despite being available for over a decade, less than 5% of Indians receive influenza vaccines due to perceptions of it being a minor illness and lack of government support.

• Incorporating biannual vaccination into the Universal Immunisation Program (UIP) could improve vaccine accessibility and public awareness in India.
