The trade deal’s $100 billion investment target is expected to be met before the 15-year goal

Iceland’s Ambassador to India, Benedikt Höskuldsson, predicts that the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) will invest $100 billion in India before the 15-year deadline set in the trade deal. The agreement was signed in March 2024 and came into force on October 1, 2025. The Ambassador predicts that the investment will be achieved within 10 years.

• Iceland’s Ambassador to India, Benedikt Höskuldsson, cites the example of Icelandic company Hampiðjan, which bought a 75.1% stake in Kohinoor, a company in Maharashtra, based on the TEPA.

• He highlights the importance of regulatory reforms and facilitation measures brought in by the Indian government, which have encouraged foreign firms to invest in India.

• Iceland has agreed with Norway and the EFTA desk to promote the TEPA inside India.

• The promotion will be through different sectors over the next 18 months, focusing on clean energy, green technology, energy efficiency, fisheries, and medical equipment.
