There is no decision yet on updating NPR together with Census.

“Census 2027: No Decision on NPR Update”

• Centre has not decided on updating National Population Register (NPR) for Census 2027.

• During a two-day conference, participants were informed no decision had been made on NPR.

• The first preparatory meeting for the Census, starting in April 2026, was attended by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Registrar-General of India (RGI), and Census Commissioner of India Mritunjay Kumar Narayan.

• A June 27 letter from the RGI to all State Chief Secretaries did not mention NPR.
