    • Bangladesh’s diplomatic source reveals that the country did not receive any official-level intimation before India shut down land ports for readymade garments.

    • The decision came two days after Bangladesh stopped readymade garment exports from India to India through all Indian land ports.

    • The closure of land ports was seen as a “sovereign action” by Bangladesh, which was expected due to shared history.

    • The move was seen as a reciprocal measure to Bangladesh’s ban on Indian yarn exports and aggressive inspection of Indian trucks.

    • Bangladesh is also monitoring for any further punitive action from India, as the decision appears to be initiated for political reasons.

    • The barring of land ports is seen as a threat to people-to-people interaction that benefits from commercial engagement.
