    Tomatoes raise food inflation fears this month.

    • Vegetable prices in South Delhi have surged, with tomatoes being the most expensive at ₹120 per kg.
    • Retail tomato prices rose 233% in July compared to June, but eased by 23% in August.
    • Excess rainfall in September has exacerbated the situation, with Mandi arrivals more than halving from August.
    • Vegetable inflation reached a 14-month high of 36% in September.
    • The situation has worsened since October, pushing tomatoes beyond the ₹100-a-kilo mark in many cities.
    • The Centre intervened in the market on October 7, launching tomato sales at ₹65 per kg in Delhi NCR.
