    • U.S. Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti argues that India is the world’s highest tariff-major economy.

    • Garcetti suggests that both countries need to lower tariffs to boost trade and make it “fair and equal.”

    • The comments come after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump criticized India for charging “a lot” of tariffs, reiterating his intention to impose reciprocal tariffs.

    • Garcetti emphasized the need for cooperation to lower tariffs, increase trade, and ensure training and talent meet the needs of both sides of the Indo-Pacific.

    • Despite challenges, India-U.S. bilateral trade has seen a “10-fold increase”, with America becoming India’s top trading partner.

    • Garcetti suggests that honest conversations and deeper negotiations are needed to address tariffs.
