U.S. returns 1,100 illegal Indian immigrants.
• The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has repatriated 1,100 Indians in fiscal year 2024, a “steady increase” in recent years.
• Assistant Secretary for Border and Immigration Policy, Royce Murray, confirmed the repatriation in Punjab, India.
• The repatriation was part of the DHS’s initiative to enforce U.S. immigration laws.
• The U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada borders are chosen by Indian nationals to enter the U.S. illegally.
• Deportations are not related to the recent controversy over an allegation against a Government of India official.• Murray cautioned against human smuggling organizations that try to send Indians to the U.S. and warned that illegal crossing the U.S. borders may lead to deportation and a minimum five-year bar on re-entry.
