• Macron aims to make the release of hostages taken by Hamas a precondition for opening an embassy to the Palestinian state.

• Israel’s Foreign Ministry argues that recognition moves do not promote peace and further destabilize the region.

• Abbas, the Palestinian President who was denied a visa by Washington, will miss the assembly, which will focus on world leaders’ speeches and protest walkouts.
